Canine and Feline Wellness

image1 Testimony from the Doctor:

I raised two children, and neither one came with an instruction booklet. During their childhood and teenage years, I often wondered if I had any idea what I was doing. Making decisions about child rearing was frequently a gut-wrenching process, which usually produced shades of gray between right and wrong. However, one March evening in 1998, I pulled off one of the most brilliant maneuvers of my life.

My daughter Julie was turning sixteen, so I took her to Olin Aldridge’s to buy a Jack Russell puppy for her birthday present. The puppy was named Charlotte, and Julie loved Charlotte and took excellent care of her. Charlotte always received the best care Gibson Animal Clinic could provide. This included getting her checkups every year and never missing her flea control or heartworm preventive. Her teeth were kept clean, bathed, and groomed regularly, and she was fed a quality diet. She was also well-socialized due to her constant interactions with people and other dogs. When Julie and I could not talk about anything else, we could talk about Charlotte. When Julie and I could not agree on anything else, we could agree on Charlotte.

We lost Charlotte to old age in 2014. When Charlotte died, Julie posted on her Facebook page, “I just lost the best friend I ever had.” Julie and I will always share a bushel basket full of precious memories that include Charlotte. The point of this story is to tell you that I take the human-animal bond very seriously. The goal at Gibson Animal Clinic is to keep your pet healthy for as long as possible so that you can build your bushel-basket full of precious memories.

What exactly is a wellness plan?

Gibson Animal Clinic offers a progressive new approach to veterinary care. Our Wellness Plans embrace a focus on preventative medicine based on the specific life stage of your pet.

First, each patient is assessed based on species, breed, age, and environmental challenges. Next, we offer recommendations for prevention, nutrition, and diagnostic work-ups appropriate for your pet.

Our role is to educate you on those procedures and medications that are especially beneficial for your pet. This allows us to be more flexible with our recommendations and gives you more control of your pets' healthcare.

The key to our Wellness Program is an emphasis on the annual health examination. Each year your pet will receive a comprehensive physical exam, vaccines, parasite screening, and age-appropriate ancillary diagnostics to screen for early signs of disease. Patients with health-related concerns will be recommended more advanced diagnostics when needed. In addition, more frequent re-evaluations will likely become necessary for those pets with ongoing illnesses.
